Are you the responsible rebel we are looking for?
Because data only becomes valuable when you can trust it, use it and turn it into action.
Hunt & Hackett helps European companies prevent, detect and respond to today’s most advanced adversaries, safeguarding them against cyberthreats and espionage. We do not just stir a bit into security strategies. Our talented team of responsible rebels shakes them up to build, operate and maintain digital immune systems that help our customers outsmart their digital adversaries.
To extend our multidisciplinary team, we are now hiring a Data Engineer. Do you enjoy turning complex data challenges into practical solutions? Does a well designed API, a reliable data flow or a clean deployment pipeline give you that quiet satisfaction others get from inbox zero? Do you see opportunities for generative AI, but also know that good data processing comes before shiny promises? Do you belong to the most talented group of Data Engineers in the industry, or is this where you plan to be? Then Hunt & Hackett might be the best next step in your career.
Data Engineer at Hunt & Hackett
At Hunt & Hackett, we believe modern cybersecurity requires more than strong detection and response. It requires reliable, secure and scalable data processing. Our security experts, developers and analysts depend on data to understand threats, improve our services and help customers stay ahead of their adversaries.
As our Data Engineer, you take ownership of our data platform. You design, build and maintain the services, APIs and data flows that make data available, usable and trustworthy. You work with stakeholders inside the organisation to understand what they need, translate that into a concrete roadmap and, most importantly, you make it happen.
You do not wait for a perfect specification to appear in your inbox. You ask the right questions, get to the essence of a problem and propose a solution that fits both the business and the application landscape. You prefer existing open standards and proven solutions where they make sense. If they do not, you are perfectly happy to build what is needed yourself.
You develop with modern tools from our development team and deploy your code through our own CI/CD pipeline to our infrastructure. APIs, automated testing, containers, packaging and GitOps are not separate boxes to tick. They are part of how you build software that is reliable, maintainable and ready for production.
Your role is broad by design. One day, you might be designing an API that makes data available for analysis and software applications. The next, you might be improving a data processing flow, exploring a generative AI use case or building a web application that allows users to upload data securely. You are a Data Engineer, but you are also comfortable stepping into full stack development when that is the best way to get the job done.
We are not looking for someone who adds technology for the sake of technology. You know the difference between solving a data problem and creating an exciting new problem that happens to involve six extra services. You think creatively, work pragmatically and keep the bigger picture in sight.
You also enjoy a good technical discussion. Not because you need to win it, but because challenging each other is how good ideas become better plans. You have a view on data processing, can explain your choices and are open to changing your mind when someone brings better arguments.
The Hunt & Hackett wish list. The right candidate:
3-6 years of relevant experience
API craftsmanship: You have experience designing, developing, building, querying and maintaining APIs for data analysis and software applications. You understand that an API should be useful for its users, not just technically impressive in isolation.
GitOps and CI/CD experience: You know that deployment should be repeatable, traceable and preferably not depend on someone remembering twelve manual steps.
Development skills: You develop in Python.
Data platform ownership: You are comfortable taking responsibility for a platform and its evolution. You see what needs attention, what it should evolve to and how to put it all into a roadmap. You are able to reliably deliver on your roadmap.
Analytical problem solving: You can work independently, reduce complex problems to their essence and make sensible technical choices. You know when details matter and when they are merely trying to distract everyone from the actual issue.
Collaboration and communication: You work well with technical colleagues and business stakeholders. You are not afraid of content driven discussions and enjoy using them to reach a stronger solution together.
Vision and curiosity: You have an opinion about data processing and are able to articulate it. You stay up to date with developments in your field and can distinguish between a useful trend and a buzzword wearing a nice jacket.
AI curiosity: Experience with generative AI is a plus. You see opportunities to use AI in data processing, while keeping a clear eye on security, quality, feasibility and actual value.
Please note: this is a wish list, not a bingo card. If you recognise yourself in most of it and can explain how you would grow into the rest, we encourage you to apply. At Hunt & Hackett, your potential and ability to learn count for a lot.
What is your wish list? As a minimum, Hunt & Hackett offers you:
- A monthly salary, of course. The salary range is between € 4.141 and € 5.506
- The opportunity to safeguard Europe’s leading organisations
- A unique culture of responsible rebellion, where you can learn from the best and get the most out of yourself
- The most innovative security tools you need to get the job done
- Plenty of time and opportunity to develop yourself in areas such as SOC, Incident Response and Red Teaming
- A proper laptop to get the job done
- Being part of a winning team, with room for fun, learning and development
- A modern pension that is transparent and can be controlled by yourself
- An employee share participation scheme
- Compensation for your travel costs
- Daily lunch on us. We prepare and enjoy it as a team
A culture of ‘responsible rebellion’
Only (very) talented, multidisciplinary teams of threat hunters, intelligence analysts, reverse engineers, data scientists, developers and hackers are able to outsmart the increasingly professional community of cyber attackers. We pride ourselves as a force for the good and as such we think and act as responsible rebels. We are not ‘just another security company’, and our people are not ‘just employees’. Everyone at Hunt & Hackett wants to be the best in their field and focuses at delivering next-gen levels of service. This means that we live by:
- Security first: a foundational core value that underscores our company's unwavering commitment to prioritizing security in all aspects of our operations.
- Pushing the envelope: Everyone at our teams takes the responsibility to make our work better every day, by being creative to color outside of the lines if needed.
- Everything is important: Tiny details have a huge impact, especially in security. We are system thinkers that oversee the big picture and who are simultaneously obsessive about details. That’s why we champion tradecraft.
- Perseverance: To become successful, you will have to endure challenges, errors, failures and obstacles along the way. These may take weeks, months, or years to overcome.
- Ego is the enemy: Ego ultimately prevents us from learning, holds us back and makes us overreach. It is therefore important to battle that inner force that destroys great empire's, companies, careers and tears apart relationships.
